Dr Yoila Malann
Dr Malann, David Yoila,being the fourth born,was born at Kunnet-Barah into the Mr and Mrs David Malann of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. He is married and blessed with two children.
Educational Background
Dr Malann attended the L.G.E.D Primary School, Kunet, from 1979 – 1985 for his First Leaving School Certificate and proceeded to the famous Government Science School, Kuru, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1991. In 1992, he enrolled at the renowned University of Jos and graduated with a BSc. Zoology (second class upper division) in 1997. In 1999, he enrolled for a master degree in Applied Entomology and Parasitology at the same University where he graduated in 2002. In 2007, he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Teacher’s Institute, Kaduna. To cap his educational journey, in 2009, he enrolled as a doctoral student (PhD) in Zoology with a specialization in Parasitology at the University of Abuja and graduated in 2014.
Working Experience
After his one-year compulsory National Youth Service in1997, in 1998, Dr Malann secured a teaching appointment with the Christ Apostolic College, Kuba, where he became the Acting Principal of the College in 2004 before resigning to take up a lecturing position at Abuja in 2008. Since then, he has been lecturing and researching at the University of Abuja. He has served in various committees of the University and held several administrative positions (for example, Postgraduate Coordinator and Sandwich Biology Programme Coordinator).In 2017, he took up a sabbatical and visiting positions as a Reader at the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State.In 2020, the University of Abuja’s governing council approved his full professorial chair, subject to favourable external assessment.
Community service:
Dr Malann has rendered several community services, among which some are:
- Patron BIOSSAChristian Fellowship, 2010 – Date.
- 1993-1997 - Bachelor of Biology, University of Abuja.
- Principal Investigator for the Federal Capital Territory of the US Presidential Malaria Control Program in Nigeria, 2021.

Dr Malann is a member of the following Professional bodies in Nigeria:
- PARASITOLOGY AND PUBLIC HEALTH SOCIETY OF NIGERIA (PPSN)
- ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NIGERIA (ZSN)
- ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NIGERIA (ESN)
- SCIENCE ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (SAN)
Supervisory Experience
Dr Malann has supervised, co-supervised and examined several Undergraduate, five (5) Masters and two (2) doctoral researches with several others ongoing in Applied Entomology, Parasitology and Animal Diversity across different Nigerian Universities.
Publications and research outputs
Dr Malann has to his credit:
- i. Over 45 articles in National and International peer-reviewed academic journals
- One (1) book and several chapters of lecture and practical guides published by the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Abuja
- Over 30 publications in the book of proceedings and abstracts in National and International scientific conferences
- Several National and International research collaborations yielded research outputs in Applied Entomology, Parasitology and Animal biodiversity.
