Mrs Rebecca Napthali

Professor Rebecca Samuel Naphtali like other peak learned academicians has achieved outstanding and distinction via rigorous and progressive learning process.

Professor Rebecca was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Livingstone at Bangshika, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. She started her elementary education at Bangshika Primary School, Hong LGA in the year 1973-1979 after which she attended Government Girls Secondary School Yola in 1979-1981 and later Government Science Secondary School Donga in 1981-1983. The then young Rebecca subsequently gained admission into college of preliminary studies Yola, Adamawa State in 1985-1986. Thereafter she proceeded for her Bachelor Degree with Federal university of Technology Yola, Adamawa State (1987-1991) where she obtained B.Tech in Zoology. In her quest for further studies, she gained admission into the prestigious University of Ibadan where she obtained MSc. in Parasitology (1995-1997) and Ph.D. in Parasitology and Entomology (2001-2005).

After her NYSC in 1992, Professor Rebecca secured a job with the Ministry of Agriculture, Yola, Adamawa State (1993 - 1994). Professor Rebecca started her lecturing career with Federal University of Technology Yola as Graduate Assistant in the year 1994 and progressively moved to the rank of Professor in the year 2018 and she has continued to serve. She is the Principal Investigator on Malaria Vector Surveillance and Insecticide Resistance Monitoring studies by NIMR in collaboration with NMEP, Adamawa State, 2019 - date. She held many administrative positions in different capacity both within and outside the university, few among others include:

Professor Rebecca has mentored and supervised several students at different levels. She successfully supervised more than 100 undergraduate students; Sixty (69) Masters Students and Thirteen (13) PhD students. She is an active and dedicated member of PPSN and she is currently the Zonal Coordinator of PPSN North East. She encourages many of her postgraduate students into joining the society and some are currently active members. Her two postgraduate students (mentees) won two consecutive awards as 2nd Position “Young Scientist” in the poster presentation during the 2018 and 2019 in Taraba State University and University of Portharcout respectively.

She has 46 scientific journals published in reputable academic journals and sixteen (16) conference papers. Her research is majorly in the following areas:

• Malaria Vector Control/Malaria Chemotherapy
• Treatment and Control of intestinal parasites
• Treatment and Control of Onchocerciasis
• Treatment and Control of Schistosomiasis
• Treatment and Control of Trichomoniasis

Professor Rebecca acquired some number of awards and training so as to enhance her service delivery to humanity, few of such training includes:

• Training on Vector Surveillance and Insecticide Resistance Monitoring Protocol, Organized by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), held at NIMR, Yaba, in 2019.
• Nadi International School awards of outstanding Qualities in Academics and Exemplary Leadership: 2016
• Training on Harmonization of Curricula for Community Health workers and Health Assistant in ECOWAS Region, Bamako, Mali, 2011.

Professor Rebecca is a mother, a role model to many, a believer with passion of counseling the young people to grow with good moral.
