Prof Innocent Omalu
Dr Innocent Chukwuemeka James Omalu is an Associate Professor of Public Health Parasitology. A staff of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. He began his academic career at St. Thomas primary school Kano (1976 - 1982) for first school leaving certificate, Army day Secondary School (1983 - 1988) for SSCE and University of Jos (1989 - 2006) for BSc, MSc and PhD in Applied Parasitology. He attended the African Institute African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology, Harare, Zimbabwe and Biomedical Research and Training Institute, Harare, Zimbabwe for certificates in molecular biology (PCR based diagnostics) and HPLC based drug analysis in HIV/AIDS and Biostatistics and data analysis respectively.
He has chaired and a member of various committees at Federal University of Technology, Minna, a former Head, Department of Biological Sciences from 2011 - 2013 and former Coordinator Infectious Disease Unit of the University from 2012 - 2014.
Dr. Omalu had won TETFUND research grants, supervised 10 PhDs and 25 Masters students and led several research projects that studied Soil transmitted Helminths trypanosomosis, schistosomiasis, malaria, lymphatic filariasis and drug delivery. He has also served as external examiner to some Universities in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.
He is a consultant with Federal Ministry of Health, Global 2000/the CarterCenter, USAID/PMI Project on Malaria vector surveillance, Malaria Consort and Sightsavers Nigeria working on Neglected Tropical Diseases in Northern States.
Dr. Omalu is a member of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN) and has served as the Niger State coordinator and currently the Business Manager of Nigeria Journal of Parasitology. Also a member of the Board of the America Bibliography Institute and Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN). He is the Managing Editor of International Journal of Applied Biological Research (IJABR).
He has attended both local and international conferences and has published over 70 research papers, 2 technical reports and serves as reviewer to both local and international journals. He has won several awards. He is married with six children.
