Prof. Oladele Olusiji Kale

Professor Oladele Kale is a distinguished Epidemiologist and Professor of Preventive & Social Medicine at the University of Ibadan. Oladele Kale was trained in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland; School of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene of the University of Liverpool, England and the Institute of Public Health, University of Bristol, also in England. He workedvariously at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos and Hospitals in Londonbetween 1966 and 1970 before joining the University of Ibadan. He was appointed Professor in 1982and Foundation Dean, Faculty of Public Health of the College of Medicine.Professor Oladele Kale is a two-time recipient of the President Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Award for Guinea worm Eradication in Nigeria, a disease to which he is a leading contributor to its eradication. He is well acknowledged for his outstanding leadership role in the eradication of Poliomyelitisand the effort to eliminate other tropical diseases particularly filariasis and intestinal helminthiasis. He chaired several research committees during a 10-year tenure at the WHO/Tropical Diseases Research and Training in Geneva. He served as the Chair of the Technical Consultative Committee of the WHO-African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control and Trustee and Chair of the Bassir-Thomas Biomedical Research Foundation.Professor Kale is a member of several professional associations where he held leadership position at various times. He is a trustee of service-orientedhealth and development organisations including the Epidemiological Society of Nigeria, the Bassir-Thomas Biomedical Research Foundation, and the Common Heritage Foundation. Professor Kale is the 1997 awardee of the John Holt Medal of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and the1998 Oritshejolomi Thomas Distinguished Fellow.
