Prof. Bertram E. B. Nwoke
Prof. Nwoke was a pioneer student of Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu where he obtained in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Science Laboratory Technology in 1975. He was also a pioneer student of University of Jos where he obtained B.Sc. (Zoology) Second Class Upper Division in 1979 and was the first best graduating student of Zoology, University of Jos. He has an MSc degree (Applied Entomology & Parasitology) in 1981 and a PhD (Medical Parasitology & Entomology) in 1987. In addition, he has Certificate in Total Quality Management and also computer literate.
Prof. B. E. B. Nwoke started his academic career in 1981 at the Etiti Campus of Imo State University,Nigeria as an Assistant Lecturer; and in 1994 he was promoted to the position of Professor of Public Health Parasitology and Entomology. Prof. B. E. B. Nwoke is Scientist of International repute. He is a former Acting Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Imo State University Owerri and Consultant to many international organizations like WHO, UNICEF, Global 2000 Carter Centre, Atlanta, States and Federal Ministry of health on Neglected Tropical Disease. Prof Nwoke is a postgraduate external examiner to several Nigerian Universities and has successfully supervised more than 200 undergraduate projects, 67 MSc/MPH and 65 PhD Theses. At least twenty (20) of these postgraduate graduates are now Professors, of which one is currently a Vice Chancellor.
Prof. B. E. B. Nwoke has nearly four decades of research experience in different aspects of endemic parasitic diseases and their vectors, especially on Neglected Parasitic Diseases. Relevant and distinguished in his field of study, Prof. Nwoke is of a Fellow, NigerianAcademy of Science and Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, London. He was a TDR/WHO Postdoctoral Fellow on Advance Epidemiological Field Research Training at the WHO Onchocerciasis Control Programme (OCP) in West Africa and Postdoctoral Fellow of Bill Gates at the
Lymphatic Support Centre at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Prof. Nwoke is a WHO Consultant on Rapid Epidemiological Mapping of Onchocerciasis (REMO) in Africa. He has attended and participated in several national and international conferences, workshops or symposia and has attracted and successfully completed many institutional, national and/or international operational Research and Development (R&D) grants.
Prof. Nwoke is the current Chairman of the Nigerian Onchocerciasis Elimination Committee, Member, Mectizan Expert Committee and Member, Steering Committee on Neglected Tropical Diseases in Nigeria. Prof. Nwoke is a man with impeccable probity and integrity; with very impressive biomedical ingenuity. He has strong ability to initiate and maintain efficiency in multi- task operation and also has excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skill.
